During a bike ride in Tuscany, I came across La Luna Innamorata. My husband and I were in Lucca, where it was sweltering. But the park surrounding the city was a wonderful place to bike. And that’s how we came across this statue of a colorful woman holding a red heart above her head.
What immediately struck us was how prominently the heart was displayed. The sign next to the sculpture explained that the symbol represents a health project in Tuscany: Le Stagioni del Cuore. This initiative offers free medical check-ups to young people and promotes awareness of heart health. The sculpture thus aligns beautifully with the mission of Het Vrouwenhart Spreekt: to increase knowledge about and attention to women’s heart health.
As a result, La Luna Innamorata has earned a spot on this website’s homepage. It serves as a symbol for women who have lived with heart problems for years—sometimes in silence, sometimes misunderstood, sometimes not believed. The heart, so visibly displayed in the image, represents the strength to share your story, take your symptoms seriously, and not push your own health aside. A woman’s heart not only deserves care, but also deserves to be seen.
